Kolkata/IBNS: Filmmaker duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee on Sunday announced the sequel to their 2023 blockbuster Bengali flick Raktabeej on the occasion of the country's 76th Republic Day.

The makers have announced Raktabeej 2 with a motion poster.

Veteran actor Victor Banerjee, Bengali film A-listers Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty are set to reprise their roles from the first installment, which was based on the 2014 blast which took place at Khagragarh in West Bengal's Burdwan district.

In Raktabeej, which had a run in the box office for over 100 years, Victor Banerjee's character was modelled after former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee, Abir had played a probe officer and Mimi a cop.

The second installment, as shown in the motion poster, is set to release during Durga Puja this year.

Raktabeej, which had carried a flavour of the festive season, was released during Durga Puja in 2023.

As per sources, actor Ankush Hazra, who had featured in an item dance and also played a surprise role in the first installment, is likely to continue in Raktabeej 2.
