Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has secured a landmark nomination at the International Emmy Awards 2025 for Best Performance by an Actor, marking a major international milestone in his career.

The recognition comes for Dosanjh’s acclaimed performance as the late Punjabi folk icon in Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila.

His portrayal has been praised for authentically capturing Chamkila’s charisma, energy, and vulnerability.

Dosanjh will compete in the category alongside David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude).

Notably, Amar Singh Chamkila has also received a nomination in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category, further cementing its global impact.

The film, which premiered on Netflix on April 12, 2024, tells the extraordinary yet tragic story of Chamkila, whose fearless lyrics about love, rebellion, and social realities made him a cultural sensation in Punjab.

His meteoric rise ended abruptly in 1988, when he and his wife Amarjot, played by Parineeti Chopra, were assassinated at the age of 27. Parineeti Chopra stars as Amarjot in the film.

This nomination continues the growing recognition of Indian talent at the International Emmys.

In recent years, Netflix’s Delhi Crime made history in 2020 by winning Best Drama Series, while comedian Vir Das won an Emmy in 2021 for his Netflix special Vir Das: For India.

With Dosanjh’s latest achievement, Indian stories are once again in the global spotlight.
