Asha Bhosle
Did you know? Asha Bhosle sang for a Pakistani film — Sargam
Indian singing legend Asha Bhosle, who died in a Mumbai hospital on Sunday, lent her voice for a Pakistani movie named Sargam, a film that featured Adnan Sami and Zeba Bakhtiar.
This is the only Pakistani movie which featured Sami, who was popular for singing multiple hit songs later in his career.
The movie was directed by Syed Noor.
Most of the film songs were written by Riaz ur Rehman Saghar, and the music was composed by Adnan Sami.
In his emotional post following the demise of Bhosle, Sami wrote on Instagram: "My Mother of Melodies has departed…The radiance of 'In Ankhon Ki Masti' has faded, and 'Kabhi To Nazar Milao' now feels like nothing more than a final prayer offered at the soul’s departure. The voice that cradled and nurtured me, is silent today; yet in every melody, her hand is still felt upon my head—and always will be…Sometimes, one simply does not have the heart to say 'Khuda Hafiz'."
Hospitalisation Before Passing
The veteran singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on April 11, a day before her demise.
An Eight-Decade Musical Legacy
Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle began her career at just 10 years old, singing for the Marathi film Majha Bal in 1943.
Over an extraordinary career spanning more than eight decades, she became one of India’s most versatile playback singers. Her iconic songs include Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Kajra Mohabbat Wala, and Dil Cheez Kya Hai.
Initially known for cabaret-style and light numbers, she later earned widespread acclaim for her mastery across genres, including ghazals and classical music.
Her passing marks the end of an era in Indian music, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the country.
