Akshaye Khanna was ahead of his time! Young Indians now relate to the Dhurandhar actor’s viral ‘singlehood’ interview
Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood seems to be rediscovering the charm of its yesteryear stars—first Bobby Deol in Animal, and now Akshaye Khanna in Dhurandhar, where his performance has drawn remarkable appreciation from audiences.
Though the film largely revolved around Ranveer Singh, it was Akshaye who stole the limelight with his magnetic portrayal of Rehmat Dakait, a role that many viewers have hailed as the finest of his career.
As Akshaye enjoys renewed admiration, an old interview of the actor has resurfaced online, resonating strongly with millennials and Gen Z audiences.
In the 2012 conversation with Bollywood Hungama, he spoke candidly about his unconventional views on marriage—perspectives that, back then, had limited takers but are now striking a chord with younger social media users.
“It’s so irritating when people you don’t even know ask when you’ll get married. There’s no bigger responsibility than being responsible for a wife and family. I’m happy alone… I only have to worry about myself,” the then 36-year-old Akshaye had said, explaining why he chose to remain unmarried.
He added, “If I feel I want to get married, or if I fall in love with someone, or find the right, beautiful woman, then I’ll think about it. I’m just living life for myself. Why should I spoil that?”
Among the many netizens revisiting the interview was one Sunita, who commented, “I’m becoming like him now. Marriage and children are huge responsibilities, yaar. So true—when the right time comes, I’ll think about it.”
Another user wrote, "Dheere dheere Akshaye Khanna Banta jaa raha hu (slowly I am becoming like Akshaye Khanna).
