After apology 'Tandav' makers agree to implement changes 'to address concerns'

Mumbai/IBNS: The creators of Amazon Prime's original web series 'Tandav' have agreed to make changes in the content "to address concerns" a day after issuing 'unconditional apology' following the FIR.

On Monday, the cast and crew of 'Tandav' issued an unconditional apology after an FIR was filed against the makers of the show for allegedly "insulting Hindu gods and goddesses" in some scenes.

In Tuesday's statement, the makers said: "The cast and crew of Tandav have made the decision to implement changes to the web series to address the concerns raised towards the same... We once again apologise if the series has unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments."

"We have outmost respect for the sentiments of the people of our country. We did not intend to hurt or offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead," they said.

Earlier in their apology, they referred to the disclaimer statement that is an industry standard and said: "'Tandav' iss a work of fiction and that any resemblance to acts and persons and events is purely coincidental."

"The cast and crew of 'Tandav' take cognizance of the concerns expressed by the people and unconditionally apologize if it has unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments," the statement had added.

On Sunday, Maharashtra BJP MLA Ram Kadam had filed a complaint against makers of 'Tandav' for allegedly insulting Hindu gods and goddesses.

Following the apology from the makers on Monday, Ram Kadam in his reaction said that since the makers did not make it clear if they will delete those scenes, he would continue the protest against the show.

Even after Tuesday's statement to make changes, the BJP leader said that their fight to send the culprits, who have insulted the Hindu gods and goddesses, to jail would continue.

He alleged that the Maharashtra government is not taking any action on the FIR and protecting the ones who have insulted the Hindu gods and goddesses.

He earlier questioned: "Why is it becoming a trend amongst films and web series makers to demean Hindu gods? Latest culprit seems to be the series #Tandav. #SaifAliKhan again part of a film or series which attempts to target Hindu deities. Director Ali Abbas Zafar needs to remove that scene which mocks."

He also demanded the Centre to create a body to review OTT platform movies and web series.

'Tandav' is based in India's national capital Delhi and revolves around the politics of the country.

Apart from Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, the web series stars Dimple Kapadia, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub in the lead roles.

Tandav is streaming on Over-the-top (OTT) platform Amazon Prime Video from Jan 15.
