9-day French Film Festival in Kolkata concludes with a cultural ode

Kolkata/IBNS: The first edition of the French Film Festival in Kolkata has concluded amidst glitz and glamour. The nine-day cinematic extravaganza, which commenced on Feb 16, positioned itself as a significant cultural exchange platform between India and France, showcasing the depth and diversity of French and Indian cinema.

The concluding ceremony was attended by members of the film fraternity including Indian filmmakers Sudhir Mishra and Goutam Ghose; Indian actor of French Cinema Mia Maelzer; Consul General of France in Kolkata Didier Talpain; and Director of the Alliance Française du Bengale, Nicolas Facino.

The festival was methodically curated into five distinct sections, each showcasing the richness of French and Indian cinematic narratives under the broad sections of French Contemporary Cinema, Animation Films, The French New Wave, Indian Classics Featured at Cannes, French Short Movie Night and Special Screenings for Young Audiences.

This maiden film festival concluded with the screening of notable films, which included "Padma Nadir Majhi" by eminent filmmaker Goutam Ghose, a classic set in the backdrop of rural Bengal.

'Jungle Bunch World Tour' by French Animation Filmmaker L.Bru, attracted a captivated younger audience. Both screenings are a testament to the festival's commitment to diverse cinematic experiences.

Former Miss India – Universe Ushoshi Sengupta said, “As the official Master of Ceremonies for the 1st edition of the French Film Festival, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Alliance Française team, led by Nicolas Facino and Didier Talpin, Consul General of France in Kolkata. Their visionary leadership has brought the best of art and culture to our city, the 1st edition at Nandan has been a vibrant celebration of cinematic excellence, a festival filled with inspiration, creativity, and the timeless magic of French cinema!”

The festival was inaugurated by veteran actor Anil Kapoor, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, and Tollywood actors Rituparna Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee.
