Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo: Mimi Chakraborty says 'I wanted to play a strong role on OTT debut'

Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actress-parliamentarian Mimi Chakraborty is all set for her digital debut with Hoichoi web series 'Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo', which is based on a real life incident.

Directed by Chandrasish Ray, the makers unveiled the trailer of the courtroom drama last week.

Mimi, who has an over-a-decade experience in acting, plays a lawyer in the series, which is inspired by the true event of an accident and murder on the eve of a New Year in Kolkata around 20 years ago.

Reasoning out her decision to pick the series for her OTT debut, Mimi told IBNS, "I wanted to play a strong character on my OTT debut. Like many of my previous roles, I wanted to play something that would overshadow my real life personality."

"I wanted to play a character which will create a deep imprint on the minds of the audience."

Like many Bengali A-listers, Mimi, who started working way back in 2008, did not rush to venture into OTT, a platform that has gained immense popularity among the viewers in the last few years and particularly, after Covid-19.

"Talks were going on for a long time but things happened at the right time. It was the right time, moment, platform, script, writers, casting for me to make my debut on OTT," she said.

In 'Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo', Mimi shares screen space with senior actor Tota Roy Choudhury, who too plays a lawyer.

The trailer of the series shows lawyer Pritha Roy (played by Mimi) taking up a case that involves the murder of a cop.

The case does not appear as a smooth sail for Pritha, who faces "tough nut" lawyer Joyraj Singha in the form of Tota Roy Choudhury in the courtroom battle.

"For 'Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo', I used to read the script and utter the lines in my mind even while doing other works. I read the lines until I achieved perfection. When I knew my dialogues completely, myself, Chandra (Chandrasish Ray, director) and other team members used to discuss the scenes and build them.

"So we were all prepared by the time we reached the set where it was just about delivery," Mimi shares on her prep-work.

Prior to 'Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo', Mimi, who played a cop in her last Bengali project 'Raktabeej', turned a lawyer in 2017 film 'Dhananjoy', which was also based on a real life incident.

Though 'Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo' is on a different medium, the 34-year-old actress with a meaty body of work was conscious of moulding Pritha Roy as someone non-identical to Kavya Sinha, the role she played in Arindam Sil's 'Dhananjoy'.

"It's a challenge to offer something new while repeating a character onscreen," Mimi says and adds, "From the beginning, I made sure not to repeat myself as Kavya Sinha."

'Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo' will start streaming on Hoichoi on January 5, 2024.
