Kolkata/IBNS: Tollywood superstar-producer Dev will be essaying the character of India's independence activist Jatindranath Mukherjee or Bagha Jatin in his upcoming Bengali film Bagha Jatin.

Bagha Jatin is also produced by Dev's Dev Entertainment Ventures.

The actor-producer along with the film's director Arun Roy were in search of a female actor who could portray Bagha Jatin's on-screen wife Indubala Banerjee.

The makers have already revealed first year engineering student Sreeja Dutta will feature opposite Dev as the on-screen Indubala.

Speaking on the casting process, Dev said, "Not just Sreeja. 85 of 89 actors are going to make their film debut with Bagha Jatin. In a span of eight months, we went through a rigorous process of casting as we tried to ensure the actors look closest to the characters they are set to portray on-screen.

"So a film can also be made on the basis of Bagha Jatin's behind-the-scenes process. We have a team which has gone through the process of casting and selecting locations for the last eight months."

The period film also features actor Sudipta Chakraborty in a pivotal role.

Bagha Jatin will go on floors in the last week of January.
