Charleston, Jun 25 (IBNS): At least 23 people were killed and another 1000 were left stranded without power as floods swept across West Virginia on Friday, reports said.

CNN quoted West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin stating 14 deaths till Friday afternoon. Nine more were added by West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management by Friday night.

Fourty-four counties had declared a state of emergency after a flood was predicted. Elkview, Clendenin and Frame have taken the maximum hit, CNN reported quating government officials.

Extending his support, US Presidential candidate Donald J Trump tweeted, "Thoughts and prayers are with everyone in West Virginia- dealing with the devastating floods. #ImWithYou."
