Two groups of protesters rally at Venezuelan embassy in Washington as tensions rise

Washingotn, May 2 (Sputnik/UNI) Dozens of supporters of US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido participate in a rally in front of the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington on Wednesday confronting a group of pro-Maduro activists that are protecting the diplomatic mission, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

Two groups of demonstrators are trying to shout down each other. The goal of pro-Maduro protesters is to prevent Guaido and his representatives from taking possession of the embassy. "Hands off Venezuela," chant the activists, including those looking out of the building windows. Their opponents are chanting "Guaido" and "Get out."

Guaido's representative to the United States Carlos Vecchio made a speech to supporters in front of the embassy but it was hard to hear him as the defenders of the embassy were chanting "CIA hell no," according to the Sputnik reporter.

Dozens of US police officers are separating the two groups of protesters.
