Syrian envoy calls for destroying terrorist hotbed in Idlib to preserve progress achieved

Beirut, April 13 (Sputnik) Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdulkarim Ali has urged to resolve the situation with Syria's Idlib region becoming a hotbed of terrorism in order to preserve the progress that had already been achieved by the Syrian army in settling the longstanding crisis.

According to the ambassador, the whole world is interested in "preventing terrorism from undergoing a plastic surgery and arising under new names because it was a time bomb." The diplomat added Syria believed that without defeating terrorism, all efforts taken by allied powers in resolving the crisis would be wasted.

"It is necessary to clearly express and define a specific time frame for the reconciliation process without extending it. Idlib is a large region that poses great challenges, there are terrorists threatening the success achieved by the Syrian army," the diplomat told Sputnik, adding that terrorists in Idlib also posed threat to Turkey, Iran and Russia.

The ambassador said the situation had to be resolved, stressing the need to take both military and political measures.

He noted that while the level of coordination between Syria and Russia was high, the positions of the two countries may not always match, which is completely normal.
