The youth driver of an ambulance died after unknown gunmen opened fire on the vehicle on the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway service road near Hund Badrai Bridge in Pakistan.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Ijaz Ali.

He was working for the past eight years at Bacha Khan Medical Complex in Shah Mansoor, Swabi.

His brother Mahad Ali of Sheikh Dheri told The Express Tribune that he returned home briefly three days ago before heading back to the hospital.

Protesting against the killing of the young person, his family members and locals placed Ijaz's body on the motorway at Swabi-Jahangira Road, blocking traffic for several hours and demanding immediate action against the killers.

The protesters cleared the roadway after negotiations with the police, who promised to arrest those behind the attack within three days.
