Russian troops resume attack on Kyiv: Ukraine military

| @indiablooms | Mar 01, 2022, at 02:36 pm

Kyiv: The Ukraine's military on Tuesday stated that Russian troops have resumed their attack on the capital Kyiv.

"The situation around Kyiv remains tense," warns a social media post from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Despite the fact that the enemy is losing offensive potential, he continues to inflict fire on military and civilian targets," it read as reported by BBC.

The post claims that Russia "plans to join with the highly trained military units of the Republic of Belarus" and also to use Belarusian airspace for its military air traffic.

Meanwhile, a shipment of Starlink terminals, which allow internet users to access satellite-based internet from SpaceX, have arrived in Ukraine.

Ukraine's vice-prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, who is also Ukraine's minister of digital transformation, thanked the SpaceX founder Elon Musk for the shipment.

"Starlink — here. Thanks, @elonmusk", tweeted the Vice-Prime Minister.

"You are most welcome," Musk tweeted back.

The shipment comes after the Ukrainian leader requested the devices to circumvent internet outages in Ukraine.

SpaceX hopes to eventually deploy thousands of the satellites into low-earth orbit, to allow people in remote or isolated places to access the internet, as reported by BBC.

Situation in Kherson:

The Russian army started an attack on Kherson, a city in the south between Mykolaiv and New Kakhovka, Ukraine officials said on Tuesday.

"According to eyewitnesses, the enemy is advancing from the airport to the Nikolaev highway and a ring near the cold storage plant", Ukraine's State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection reported on its Telegram channel.

Kherson's regional state administration confirmed on the social media that the city is surrounded by Russian troops but not captured.

The city's mayor has also said that the Russian army had set up checkpoints at the entrances to the city.

"It is difficult to say how the situation will develop further," mayor Igor Kolykhaye wrote on Facebook, adding: "Kherson was and remains Ukrainian!"

"I ask each of you to remain calm and prudent. Do not go outside during the curfew. Do not enter into aggressive negotiations with anyone and do not provoke the enemy to conflict," the mayor said.

Earlier, BBC reported that powerful explosions were heard near the Kherson airport.

On February 24, the Russian army invaded Ukraine and the war entered six-day on Tuesday.
