Moscow/UNI/Sputnik: Russian President Vladimir Putin told his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, that the recent escalation in eastern Ukraine was the result of the actions of Kiev's forces, the Kremlin said Sunday.

"The Russian president noted that the provocations of the Ukrainian forces were the reason for the escalation," the Kremlin said, adding that in a phone call with Macron, Putin expressed "serious concern" over the escalation along the line of contact.
