An investigative report has found that a  stress relief toy popular with Chinese children and teenagers contains large amounts of the toxic chemical boron and poses a serious health hazard, media reports said.

The toy is popularly known as  “fake water” or “crystal mud”.

The toys have been sold widely as a toy to primary and middle school students around the country, media reports said.

Of the nine brands of fake water examined, all contained two to six times more boron, a chemical found in borax which is a common ingredient in synthetic slime, than the permitted level in the European Union, reports The South China Morning Post.
