Pope and Trump fight over 'Christianity' row

| | Feb 19, 2016, at 06:00 pm
Washington, Feb 19 (IBNS) Making his presence felt in the upcoming US elections, the Pope on Thursday expressed his doubts over Presidential candidate and front runner Donald Trump being a Christian, as he said Trump's ideas of building a wall was conflicting to that of Christian belief.

Pope Francis was quoted by CNN as saying, "A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel."

The comments arrived after Trump said that he is considering building a wall in the US-Mexico border to stop illegal immigrants from entering the US.

Reacting sharply to the statements, Trump hit out at the Pontiff, calling it 'disgraceful'.

In his defence, Trump said, "No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man's religion or faith."

"If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS's ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president."

He also blamed the Mexican people and government for feeding stories about him to the Pope.

Trump said that they "Made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope."

He also said that he does not like to fight with the Pontiff, and that the media presented the story in a different manner and that the actual comments were much nicer.
