Pakistan: Unidentified armed men abduct Ziarat assistant commissioner, son

Unidentified armed men have abducted the assistant commissioner of Ziarat district and his son in Pakistan's Quetta region, media reports said.

The kidnappers took them to an unknown location after setting their vehicles on fire.

The gunmen abducted assistant commissioner Muhammad Afzal Baqi while he went for a picnic with his family to the Zezri area, Ziarat Deputy Commissioner Zakaullah Durrani told Dawn News.

The gunmen stopped the vehicle at gunpoint and directed those present inside to leave it.

The gunmen released Baqi’s gunman, driver and other family members but forced the official and his son to go with them.

“Efforts were underway for the recovery of [the] AC and his son,” Durrani said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
