Pakistan: Two terrorists killed in Balochistan

Pakistan's counterterrorism department of the Balochistan police recently claimed to have foiled a major terror attack in Quetta by killing two alleged terrorists on Monday.

The deceased terrorists reportedly included a suicide bomber.

A spokesman for the CTD told Dawn News that an operation was carried out on the basis of an intelligence report about the presence of suspected terrorists in the Derakhshan area, some 25km from the Quetta-Sukkur highway.

“A heavy exchange of fire took place between CTD personnel and armed terrorists who were equipped with heavy weapons,” the spokesman said, adding that as a result of the heavy firing two alleged terrorists belonging to a banned organisation were killed.

He said one of them was gunned down while the other terrorist detonated his suicide vest during the exchange of fire.

The official said suicide jackets, explosive materials, and weapons were also recovered from their possession.

The incident occurred at a time when the relationship between India and Pakistan had reached a low point following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people, mostly non-Muslims, dead on April 22.
