Islamabad; A Pakistani Federal Minister triggered a controversy by targeting Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz when he said that that her 'beauty' was due to several 'surgeries she got using taxpayers' money'.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur on Saturday made the comment while addressing a rally.

“She is beautiful but she spent millions on her surgeries from the taxpayers’ money," the Minister was quoted as saying by Dawn News.

However, the minister's remarks have earned criticisms from several sections of the Pakistani society.

“It appears that a woman (Maryam) has been on the nerves of the selected rulers. A single woman has shaken the entire vote-stealing government. The remarks of Ali Amin Gandapur are a reflection of the dirty mindset of the rotten system and moral bankruptcy of him,” Punjab PML-N president Rana Sanaullah was quoted as saying by Dawn News and added that such remarks also showed that the ruling PTI had nothing to offer to the people of GB.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman has condemned the statement.

“Condemned Gandapur’s shocking language about Chairman PPP @BBhuttoZardariand@MaryamNSharif. Either he should apologise to the nation for debasing politics so much or quit the National Assembly” - Sen
@sherryrehman," the Senator's team tweeted.
