Pakistan: Labourers demonstrate against low wages, bad working conditions in Dasu

| @indiablooms | Dec 22, 2024, at 08:45 pm

A large number of labourers recently participated in a protest rally in Dasu city in Pakistan over the denial of fair wages and working conditions during the construction of a highway project.

Indian news agency ANI reported quoting Skardu TV that the protest has resulted in a two-day road blockage, creating long vehicle queues and causing major disruption.

The protest was led by labourers who were working in a highway project that was developed by a Chinese company in the South Asian nation.

The protesting workers were demanding fair wages and better working conditions for them.

Protestors claim that they are not being paid the legally mandated Pakistan currency (PKR) 36,000 for 26 days of work. Despite working overtime, they say they are receiving far less than the law stipulates, ANI reported quoting Skardu TV.

The labourers complained the company was not following proper regulations.

“This protest is not for any political party; it is about labour rights,”one of the protesting leaders told ANI.
