Pakistan's National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has raided two alleged illegal call centres in Lahore, detaining more than three dozen people, media reports said on Monday.

According to reports, the call centres were allegedly involved in defrauding people overseas.

An NCCIA spokesperson told Dawn News that raids were conducted at premises in Faisal Town and Johar Town, resulting in the arrest of dozens of suspects.

The spokesperson said the suspects allegedly used dialling software to target people abroad with fraudulent calls made under the pretext of mobile upgrades and telecommunications services.

A large number of computers, laptops and mobile phones were seized during the raids, he said, adding that the devices contained dialling software and data allegedly linked to fraudulent activities.

All digital evidence was seized and sealed in accordance with legal procedures, the spokesperson said.

He added that the second call centre was traced during an investigation launched following the first raid.

The owners and facilitators of the alleged illegal call centres will be identified as the investigation progresses, he said.
