Not in New York: Statue of Liberty replica collapses in Brazilian city amid severe storm

Dramatic footage has gone viral on social media, capturing the moment Brazil’s Statue of Liberty replica was toppled during a heavy storm on Monday.

The 78-foot statue was seen leaning precariously before crashing into a car park in Guaíba, Brazil, according to The Sun.

The incident occurred after strong winds, reaching up to 55 mph, swept through the city.

No injuries were reported.

The video shows the statue leaning over a car park, prompting vehicles to be moved out of harm’s way, before finally collapsing to the ground.

The statue struck the ground headfirst, breaking into pieces, while the 36-foot pedestal it stood on remained intact.

Authorities quickly cordoned off the area to ensure safety.

According to media reports, Marcelo Maranata, the mayor of Guaíba, confirmed there were no casualties and commended the rapid response. Civil Defence officials, working alongside local teams, secured the site and inspected for additional damage.
