North Korea expels BBC correspondent, team

London, May 9 (IBNS) North Korea has expelled a BBC correspondent and his team after being detained over their reporting.

The correspondent has been identified as Rupert Wingfield-Hayes.

BBC website said: "Our correspondent, producer Maria Byrne and cameraman Matthew Goddard were stopped by officials on Friday as they were about to leave North Korea."

"Wingfield-Hayes was questioned for eight hours by North Korean officials and made to sign a statement," the British media house said.

They flew to China capital Beijing from  Pyongyang city in North Korea.

Maria Byrne tweeted: "We are very happy to be back in Beijing."
