Seoul, Feb 10 (IBNS): North Korea has executed chief of country's military on corruption charges, South Korean media claimed on Wednesday.

"Army Gen. Ri Yong-gil, chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, also faced charges of pursuing personal gains," South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported quoting sources.

The news agency quoting a source reported that Ri was executed last week around the time North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presided over a joint meeting of the North's ruling Workers' Party and the military.

Ri Yong-gil was appointed as the military chief of the country in 2013.
