The Pakistan Navy on Saturday test-fired a surface-to-air missile during a military exercise in the north Arabian Sea, according to local media reports quoting the armed forces’ media wing.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the exercise demonstrated the Navy’s operational readiness and combat preparedness, incorporating both conventional and unmanned capabilities in line with evolving naval warfare requirements, Dawn News reported.

“The exercise included the successful live firing of the LY-80 (N) surface-to-air missile from a vertical launching system at an extended range, validating the long-range capabilities of the Pakistan Navy’s modern air defence systems,” the statement said.

ISPR said the missile successfully engaged and neutralised an aerial target, underscoring the Navy’s robust air defence capability.

The exercise also involved the successful engagement of surface targets using loitering munitions, it added.

In addition, ISPR said open-sea trials of an unmanned surface vessel were conducted successfully, describing the tests as a significant step forward in autonomous naval technology. The trials validated the platform’s ability to combine high-speed performance with mission-critical durability.
