Indonesia: Introduces capital punishment, chemical castration for child rapists

| | May 27, 2016, at 04:33 pm
Jakarta, May 27 (IBNS) Child rapists in Indonesia are set to receive either a capital punishment or chemical castration, under a new law, according to reports.

The previous law of sending a sexual offender for a 14-year prison term was changed recently by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo, amid growing protests from citizens.

Widodo was quoted by the BBC as saying that the new law is "intended to overcome the crisis caused by sexual violence against children."

Earlier this year, massive protests swept across the country, after a 14-year old girl was gang-raped and murdered by offenders.
