Ex-Pakistan PM's son freed by US, Afghan commandos

Kabul, May 10 (IBNS); Afghanistan on Tuesday confirmed son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani-Ali Haider Gilani- has been rescued during a joint operation in the Giyan district of Paktika province by US and Afghan forces.

Official Twitter account of the Office of the President of Afghanistan confirmed the matter and tweeted: "Afghan National Security and Defense Forces (#ANSDF) in a joint anti-terror operation destroyed an Alqaeda cell in Paktika Province."

"Ali Haidar Gilani, son of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Yusuf Reza Gilani, was identified & rescued during the operation," it said.

He has been handed over to the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul.

"Good news for Mr. Gilani's parents, the Government of Afghanistan has safely handed him over to the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul," read another tweet.
