Boris Johnson set to become UK PM, Donald Trump wishes him

London, July 23 (IBNS): Promising to deliver the Brexit, Boris Johnson is all set to become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

He was elected as the new Conservative leader in a ballot of party members.

He beat Jeremy Hunt comfortably, winning 92,153 votes to his rival's 46,656, reported BBC.

He will replace Theresa May as the PM.

He will take over as the PM on Wednesday.

In his victory speech, Johnson was quoted as saying by BBC as  promising to "deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn".

"We are going to get Brexit done on 31 October and take advantage of all the opportunities it will bring with a new spirit of can do," he said.

Hunt congratulated Boris over the victory and said he will be a 'great PM' for the country.

"Congratulations @BorisJohnson  4 a campaign well (link: http://fought.You) fought.You'll be a great PM for our country at this critical moment!Throughout campaign you showed optimism,energy & unbounded confidence in our wonderful country & we need that.All best wishes from the entrepreneur :-)," he said.

Outgoing PM Theresa May tweeted: "Many congratulations to @BorisJohnson on being elected leader of @Conservatives - we now need to work together to deliver a Brexit that works for the whole UK and to keep Jeremy Corbyn out of government. You will have my full support from the back benches."

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump greeted him and tweeted: "Congratulations to Boris Johnson on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He will be great!"
