Bloodbath at Friday prayers: Suicide bomb rips through Islamabad mosque, 15 dead

At least 15 worshippers were killed and dozens injured in a bomb blast at a mosque on the outskirts of Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Friday, media reports said.

The explosion occurred in the Tarlai area, where a suspected suicide bomber reportedly detonated explosives at the mosque’s entrance after being stopped from entering the premises.

Police swiftly cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

According to Dunya News, an emergency was declared at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and other nearby hospitals as the injured were rushed for treatment.

Videos circulating on social media showed bystanders and rescue workers transporting the wounded to hospitals.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The blast comes days after the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army carried out multiple attacks in Pakistan’s insurgency-hit Balochistan province.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, according to Dunya News.
