Bangladesh ferry capsizes, 12 drowned

Dhaka, May 15 (IBNS): At least 12 people were drowned as a ferry carrying nearly 200 passengers capsized during a nor'wester in the Meghna river at Munshiganj in Central Bangladesh on Thursday, reports said.

"MV Miraj-4 sank around 3:30pm at Daulatpur in Gazaria upazila on its way to Sureshwar in Shariatpur from Sadarghat,"  Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Hasan Badal told The Daily Star.

Twelve bodies have been recovered so far.

Some passengers managed to swim ashore while many are still missing, reports said.

The rescue operation started after  divers of the cost guards located the ship around 6:45pm.
