New Delhi, Apr 3 (IBNS): The Indian government on Sunday announced that it has managed to secure the release of four Indian nationals from Syria.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted: "We have secured the release of four Indian nationals from Syria."

The four Indians were arrested by the Syrian government in January following suspicion that they were on their way to join ISIS.

It was later revealed they were illegal immigrants travelling without valid papers.

Swaraj wrote: "I had requested Deputy Prime Minister of Syria for their release during his visit to India in January this year. Thank you Syria."

She welcomed  Arun Kumar Saini, Sarvjit Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Joga Singh to India after their release.

"I appreciate the Officers who facilitated their journey from Syria to India," Swaraj posted.
