Mumbai: Makers of Adipurush on Monday announced the movie will now release on  June 16, 2023.

The movie was earlier supposed to release on Jan 12, 2023.

Film's director Om Raut confirmed the development and tweeted: " #Adipurush releases IN THEATRES on June 16, 2023."

In a statement, Raut said: "Adipurush is not a film, but a representation of our devotion to Prabhu Shri Ram and commitment towards our sanskriti and history.”

Raut cited post-production work as the reason behind the delay in release of the movie.

“In order to give a complete visual experience to the viewers, we need to give more time to the teams working on the film. Adipurush will now release on June 16, 2023," he said.

Raut further said: "We are committed to make a film that India will be proud of. Your support, love and blessings is what keeps us going."

The movie features southern star Prabhas as Raghava, actress Kriti Sanon as Janaki and actor Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh.

The film's teaser had received criticisms from social media users for its VFX.
