Deepika's condom jibe, Kangana's nepotism attack to Hardik-KL Rahul row: 10 Koffee With Karan controversies that shocked everyone

| @indiablooms | Oct 05, 2026, at 01:36 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: Celebrated Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has announced the final season of Koffee With Karan, the popular chat show that has generated gossip, fun, controversies and laughter over the years.

Karan announced that the ninth season would be the final season, triggering an emotional response from fans who have followed the show and its celebrity conversations on the famous couch over the years.

In a video announcement, Karan said, "I've reached a point of time in my life where I've realised that all good things have to come to an end. With a kind of a heavy heart, I have to say that this will be my very last season of Koffee With Karan."

"There will be trolls, comments, posts and I am ready to take that on. But within all of that and beneath all of that, I know there is still abundant love for this cup of Koffee," he said, adding, "So join me in my last season of Koffee With Karan and have that one last cup of Koffee with me."

The final season will premiere on October 14, 2026.

Over the years, the show has become synonymous with candid revelations, rapid-fire answers, celebrity friendships, feuds and controversies.

Here are 10 of the most controversial moments in Koffee With Karan history.

1. Deepika Padukone's condom jibe at Ranbir Kapoor

Season 3, Episode 3

One of the earliest and most enduring KWK controversies came when Deepika Padukone appeared with Sonam Kapoor.

During the rapid-fire round, Karan Johar asked Deepika what brand or product her former boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor should endorse.

Her answer — a condom brand — created a huge media storm. Deepika later clarified that the comment was made as a joke, while Ranbir's parents, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, were reportedly unhappy with the remarks.

The incident remains one of the most remembered moments in the show's history.

2. Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra's accent spat

Season 3

Kareena Kapoor, appearing with then-boyfriend and now husband Saif Ali Khan, was asked about Priyanka Chopra and questioned where the actress had acquired her accent.

Priyanka later appeared on the show and was asked about Kareena's comment. Her response was equally sharp, saying she got her accent from the same place as Kareena's boyfriend Saif Ali Khan.

The exchange became one of KWK's most memorable celebrity spats, although the two actresses eventually buried the hatchet.

3. Ranveer Singh's inappropriate remark to Anushka Sharma

Season 3, Episode 16

Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma appeared together following the success of Band Baaja Baaraat.

During their conversation, Ranveer made a sexually suggestive remark to Anushka, asking whether she wanted her "a** pinched."

Anushka immediately appeared uncomfortable and told him not to speak to her that way.

The clip attracted renewed attention years later, with viewers criticising Ranveer's remark as inappropriate and derogatory.

4. Emraan Hashmi calls Aishwarya Rai 'plastic'

Season 4, Episode 9

During the rapid-fire round, Karan asked Emraan Hashmi what first came to his mind when he heard Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's name.

His one-word answer was "plastic."

The remark sparked controversy and was widely criticised. Years later, Emraan expressed regret over the comment and said he would apologise to Aishwarya for it.

5. Salman Khan's 'I am a virgin' declaration

Season 4, Episode 1

Salman Khan's first appearance on Koffee With Karan became instantly iconic when the actor was asked about his romantic life.

Salman told Karan Johar, "I am a virgin and I sleep alone." He further said that he intended to save himself for the person he eventually married.

The unusually blunt declaration generated headlines, jokes and years of speculation, making it one of the show's most famous celebrity revelations.

6. Alia Bhatt's President-of-India blunder

Season 4

Alia Bhatt's debut on the show produced an entirely different kind of controversy. During a quiz segment, she was asked who the President of India was.

She confidently answered Prithviraj Chauhan instead of the then-President Pranab Mukherjee.

The mistake resulted in widespread trolling and memes. Alia eventually embraced the joke and even appeared in an AIB parody that poked fun at the incident.

The moment became one of the most enduring examples of a KWK rapid-fire answer going spectacularly wrong.

7. Kangana Ranaut calls Karan Johar the 'flag-bearer of nepotism'

Season 5, Episode 16

This is arguably one of the most consequential controversies in KWK history.

Appearing with Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut directly confronted Karan Johar during the episode and labelled him the "flag-bearer of nepotism" and part of the "movie mafia."

Her comments went beyond a typical celebrity roast and helped push the Bollywood nepotism debate into mainstream conversation.

Karan later publicly responded to the accusations, and the exchange became a defining moment in his increasingly public feud with Kangana.

8. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul's controversial remarks

Season 6, Episode 12

This remains one of the show's most serious controversies involving celebrity guests.

During their appearance, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul made remarks about women and their personal lives that were widely condemned as sexist and misogynistic.

The backlash was enormous. The episode was subsequently removed from streaming, while the BCCI took disciplinary action against the two cricketers.

Both players apologised, and the controversy prompted wider discussion about the kind of comments celebrities should make on entertainment shows.

9. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's open-relationship revelation

Season 8, Episode 1

Years after her infamous Ranbir Kapoor comments, Deepika Padukone again generated headlines on KWK — this time alongside her husband Ranveer Singh.

Deepika explained that when she and Ranveer first started seeing each other, there was no formal commitment and they were "technically allowed to see other people."

She said, however, that they kept returning to each other before eventually becoming serious.

The comments triggered a major social-media debate, with some viewers questioning their relationship timeline while others defended Deepika's account.

10. Anil Kapoor's 'Abhay Deol needs help' remark

Season 4, Episode 18

This controversy emerged from the fallout between Abhay Deol and the Aisha team.

Abhay had publicly expressed dissatisfaction over how he felt he was treated in the film and had criticised the Kapoors.

When Anil Kapoor was asked about the dispute on KWK, he responded that Abhay Deol "needs help in every way."

The remark attracted attention as it brought an existing Bollywood disagreement onto one of the industry's most-watched celebrity platforms.
