Thai Film Festival
Kolkata opens a new window to Thai culture through its second film festival
Kolkata/IBNS: As cinema has a way of travelling beyond borders, the second edition of the Thai Film Festival came to Kolkata on Friday, bringing together film enthusiasts, consuls general from different countries and audiences with an appreciation for global cinema.
Hosted at Cinepolis, Acropolis Mall, the festival welcomed audiences to free screenings and will continue for three consecutive days, showcasing seven Thai films spanning a wide range of genres, including romance, comedy and drama.
Royal Thai Consul General Siriporn Tantipanyathep said, "Sometimes the best way to discover a country is through the stories it tells. It is my great privilege and joy to welcome you to the Thai Film Festival in Kolkata 2026.
"This evening and over the next two days, we are taking you to Thailand through seven remarkable frames, seven unforgettable journeys, and one extraordinary Thailand."

The festival also kept free registration open for audiences, encouraging them to engage with the event and discover Thai culture through cinema.
Themed "Siam Symphony: A Cinematic Journey Through Time and Scenery", the festival seeks to take audiences through Thailand's diverse storytelling traditions and landscapes, using cinema as a bridge between cultures.
"Thai heritage, once again, is inspiring millions to proudly embrace traditional Thai attire. But its impact went far beyond the skin. It brought a new generation back to Thailand's ancient cities and historic landmarks, not just to see them, but to truly discover the stories, traditions, cultural identity and legacy that shape our nation," the Thai Consul General added.

Adding another cultural dimension to the occasion was a traditional Thai dance performance by a troupe of dancers, bringing the warmth and cultural character of Thailand closer to audiences in Kolkata.
