Kolkata/IBNS: A special screening of The Bose Files — Sach Ya Sazish, a feature film on the mystery surrounding Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's disappearance, was held in Kolkata last week.

Directed by Rajesh Gupta, the film revisits one of the most debated chapters of India's freedom struggle, examining questions around the widely reported account that Bose died in a plane crash in 1945.

Drawing on documents, witness accounts and competing narratives, it explores allegations that information was concealed and looks at the role of successive governments and intelligence agencies, according to the filmmakers.

The film follows a researcher who has spent more than two decades investigating the mystery, largely alone, and a young girl determined to find answers, whose journeys come together in a story about perseverance.

"This film was never just about revisiting history. It was about asking questions that generations had continued to ask," Gupta said.

Gupta said the film, inspired by the researched works of several authors, received censor clearance after an extensive certification process, and that reaching this stage after overcoming obstacles was meaningful for the team.

Former civil servant Prashant Singhania, the film's creative adviser, said it is a sincere effort to bring Bose to the fore as a role model with a vision for a free India and to motivate young people.

"His planned erasure has been filled by deliberate mediocrity," Singhania said.

The film is produced under the banner of Real Reels Production, and the makers say it aims to encourage younger viewers to revisit the historical questions around Bose's disappearance.
