Farhan Akhtar turns 42

Mumbai, Jan 9 (IBNS) Bollywood actor-director-producer Farhan Akhtar celebrated his birthday on Saturday as he turned 42.

Born in 1974 to lyricst-screenwriter Javed Akhtar and his estranged wife Honey Irani, Farhan started out as a director.

In 2001 he directed 'Dil Chahta Hai' for which he not only garnered praise from the critics but also won a National Award.

Following 'Dil Chahta Hai', Farhan directed Hrithik Roshan in 'Lakshya', a movie about how a carefree man finally comes of age to serve his nation in the Indian Army.

Farhan also co-owns a production company, Excel Entertainment, with partner Ritesh Sidwani, established before he embarked into the path of direction.

A critically and commercially successful director, Farhan Akhtar churned out movies like Don and Don 2 as a director and produced the sleeper hit Fukrey through his company.

His break break however came in 2008, with the Abhishek Kapoor directed Rock On! where he played a crooner of a rock band.

The movie was liked by critics and crowds alike and soon Farhan gave up space behind the camera to appear in front of it.

His high point in acting came with the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, where Akhtar portrayed the protagonist Milkha Singh. With chiseled features, he looked every bit the young Milkha Singh, therefore proving his mettle as an actor.

His latest release, Wazir too have been lauded by the critics. After directing Amitabh Bachchan in Lakshya, Akhtar was cast alongside the star in Wazir.

"Thank you all for the awesome feedback on #Wazir .. Feels so good to know our effort is being appreciated.
Big hug.. Keep it coming," he tweeted.
