Kolkata, May 31 (IBNS): Director Partha Sarathi Manna recently launched the trailer of his debut film 'Oscar', in Kolkata, in the presence of the film's star cast, including Shaheb Bhattacharya, Aparajita Adhya, Avrajit Chakraborty, Shakuntala Barua and Ayoshi Talukdar.

The film, set in the1980s, delves into the journey of Ratul, the younger son of a landlord family from rural Bengal , to fulfil his father's dream of winning the Oscar award.

The film explores emotion, revenge, betrayal and the struggle that Ratul and his elder brother goes through to fulfil their father’s dream.

Shaheb Bhattacharya, who features as Ratul told IBNS, "My character is that of the younger son of the family who aspires to be a writer and is a little carefree sort of a guy."

In fact the story line upholds Ratul as a fashionable young man from the 1980s and one who frequently has rifts with his elder brother but incidentally also visualizes his father’s unfulfilled dream of becoming an Academy Award winning actor.

"My film is an effort to pay tribute to all those actors and filmmakers who engage in this laborious effort as Oscar is what they dream of," said director Partha Sarathi Manna.

When asked about the reason for selecting 1983 as the year of the plot he told IBNS, "The year 1983 is a landmark year for us Indians in all respect. We won the World Cup, Amitabh Bachchan recovered from a fatal injury and Bhanu Athaiya became the first Indian to win the Oscar. "

The film has Priyangshu Chatterjee, Kharaj Mukherjee and Bhaskar Banerjee in other key roles.

Aparajita Adhya, who plays the antagonist in this film, told IBNS about her experience, "Whenever there is a period role like this one, we have to undergo some training but since 1983 is not that far behind, it was not that difficult."

The film is scheduled for release in July.
