Badrinath Ki Dulhania is an evolved love story, say Alia and Varun
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film is produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios and traces the love story of two small town characters, Badrinath Bansal (Varun Dhawan) and Vaidehi Trivedi (Alia Bhatt) from Jhansi and Kota respectively.
In town to promote the film, the actors spoke about the challenges of getting the rural accent right and how maths is a vital part of Badrinath and Vaidehi’s love story.
“The difference between ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya’ and this one is that Humpty Sharma was more of a puppy love story, while Badrinath is a lot more evolved, passionate, and mature, even in terms of the characters. There are real life conflicts and difficulties depicted”, said Varun.
“As far as the accent is concerned, we both had to undergo serious workshops for almost 6 months, and that was a specification by Shashank Sir (Shashank Khaitan, director)," said Aliya.
“Yeah and at times, because I felt Aliya would get it right more quickly than me, I’d go for these workshops alone,” said Varun, to which she immediately quipped,” And I would hate it whenever he would do that”.
“As far as my character Kavya from Humpty Sharma is concerned, compared to her, Vaidehi is lot more serious and mature, about her life and career. Which is probably why she takes more time to accept Badri and he had to improve his education and specially maths to impress her,” she said.
“Yes, there is a lot of discussion on the formulae of Simple Interest and Compound Interest in the film, because Badri wants to impress his dulhaniya and thus, even the students who have exams going on now, can watch the film with their families,” he joked.
“While we were shooting in Rajasthan on a lake, this one time I fell in the water because I tried to stop the boat and there were real crocodiles in it," Varun elaborated on being asked upon some memorable moments.
On being asked to reveal something candid about herself and Varun, Alia said, "Varun has this habit of waking me up whenever I’m sleeping in the car or plane”. To which, her co-star immediately responded, “Yeah that’s because I can’t sleep myself, and I need someone to talk to.”
