Behrampur, West Bengal, Jan 29 (IBNS) :  At least two persons were killed and several remain missing after a bus carrying passengers to full capacity crashed through the railing of a bridge and fell into a canal in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Monday morning, reports said.

The accident followed a mob violence leading to torching of a police vehicle as locals alleged delay in rescue operations.

The situation prompted police to resort to lathicharge.

According to reports, a speeding bus with 56 people on board fell into Gobraghat canal  at Daulatabad when it was on way to Malda from Karimpur in Nadia via Murshidabad.

The accident happened when the bus was crossing the Balighat Bridge.

Two persons died and several were missing while few passengers managed to come out of the bus.

Reports quoted the survivors as saying that the driver of the bus was speaking on his mobile when the accident took place.

Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari along with other officials rushed to the spot on a helicopter to supervise the rescue operation.
