Allahabad, Aug 8 (IBNS) : A school in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad where singing of the national anthem was never allowed on the ground it is "un-Islamic", has been shut down and its manager has been arrested, media reports said.

Earlier, the  principal and eight teachers of the school had  resigned after the  authorities refused them permission to organise a programme on Aug. 15 on the occasion of Independence Day.

Ziia-Ul Haq, the manager of the MA Convent School, was arrested on Sunday night  under a law against "Insults to National Honour".

Haq had reportedly  told teachers that it is unacceptable for Muslim students to sing the words "Bharat Bhagya Vidhata".

Media reports quoted pricipal, Ritu Shukla as saying : : "I went to the school management seeking permission to organise events like the singing of the national anthem and Saraswati Vandana on August 15. I was told such events have not been organised in this school ever since it was established approximately 15 years ago, and won't happen this year as well."
