Terrorists open fire at Udhampur police post, 2 SPO's injured, firing underway

Udhampur, Aug 6 (IBNS): Suspected terrorists opened fire at a police post in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Thursday night leaving two Special Police Officers (SPO's) injured in the attack.
The terrorists reportedly opened fire at the police post in Basantghar area of the district at 9:15 PM.

Security personnel deployed there retaliated to the firing.

Firing is still going on intermittently and the number of terrorists involved couldn't be ascertained yet.

According to reports, the terrorists crossed the Ujh river from Kathua into Basantgarh.

Following the attack, additional police and Army personnel have been rushed to the spot.

Condemning the attack, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: "Another militant attack in #Udhampur. What the heck is happening there? This was an area that was militant free for a number of years now."

The attack comes just a day after a Pakistani terrorist was captured on Wednesday following an attack on a BSF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.

The terrorist, Mohammad Naved, was caught hours after he and his companion, Noman, had attacked a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy on a highway near Udhampur, killing two soldiers. Noman was also killed when BSF men fired back.
