Panaji, Sep 28 (IBNS) : A Goa court on Thursday charged journalist Tarun Tejpal with raping a junior colleague four years ago, reports said.

The trial court in Mapusa rejected a petition of Tehelka's former editor to defer framing of charges by a month and denied him exemption from appearing in
person.

The Tehelka founder was accused by a woman colleague of sexually assaulting her in an elevator of a five-star hotel during the magazine’s THiNK 2013 festival in Goa in November , 2013.

The allegation triggered an outcry and forced Tejpal to quit. But he pleaded not guilty, and appealed to the Bombay High Court that the case be dropped.

The Bombay High Court, though agreed to hear Tejpal's petition on November 1, refused to stall the framing of charges.

The trial court has asked for status report on proceedings in the High Court on November 21.

police have said that CCTV footage from the hotel corroborates the woman's allegations against TarunTejpal.
