Supreme Court cancels Shahabuddin's bail, sends him back to jail

New Delhi, Sept 30 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail of controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Mohammad Shahabuddin, sending him back to jail, reports said.

"Take him into custody immediately," the court told the Bihar government on Friday.

The top court gave the order after hearing a petition filed by a man, whose  three sons were allegedly killed on Shahabuddin's orders.

Shahabuddin, a former lawmaker of Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD, is accused in over 40 criminal cases.

After spending eleven years in jail, the don-turned-politician walked free on September 10  after a Bihar court granted him bail.

RJD is a major  partner in Bihar's ruling grand alliance that also includes Chief Minister Nitish Kuar's Janata Dal-United.

The Chief Minister  was accused by the opposition of  bowing under the pressure of Lalu Yadav in securing Shahabuddin's release.

Denying the allegation, the Bihar government also petitioned the court to cancel Shahabuddin's  bail.

However, the court reprimanded it, asking whether it was in slumber till the politician got bail.
