Supreme Court asks Maharashtra government if the Kinara Masjid can be regularised or not

Mumbai, Jul 14 (IBNS): The Supreme Court of India on Friday, responding to a petition from Mumbai's Haji Ali Dargah Trust, modified its order regarding removal of encroachment from the area, according to media reports.

On Jul 3, the apex court had asked the Maharashtra government to clear the 908 square meter area on the approach road to the Haji Ali Dargah, within two weeks.

On Thursday, the city collector's office demolished 25 unauthorised stalls on the approach road, media reported.

However, a part of the Kinara Masjid was also found encroaching upon the demarcated area.

According to media reports, Haji Ali Dargah has requested the SC that the Kinara Masjid be regularised as it is a pre-2009 religious structure, which will save a section of it from demolition.

The apex court on Friday has asked the state government to respond within two weeks regarding the regularisation of the mosque.
