Street Lighting National Programme launched in 112 Urban Local Bodies
New Delhi, Jul 21 (IBNS): Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, on Thursday, said that the target for 2015-16 was to launch the programme in 100 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) whereas Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has already launched the programme in 112 ULBs.
The Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP), being implemented by EESL, a joint venture company of four Power Sector PSUs, envisages replacement of conventional street lights with LED lights by March, 2019.
EESL is playing an important role as a catalyst in replacing these streetlights, while several other suppliers are also carrying out the same in cities/states, the minister said.
EESL has installed the LED street lights in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi (only South Delhi Municipal Corporation area), Kerala (only Alleppey District), Rajasthan, Tripura (only Agartala city), UP (Aligarh and Varanasi cities), Assam, Telangana, Pondicherry, Maharashtra and Bihar.
