Srinagar, Aug 12 (IBNS) An encounter that broke out between militants and security forces in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Saturday evening claimed the life of a soldier, police said.

Following information about presence of militants, the forces launched a cordon-and-search operation  in Avneera village of Zainapora area of the district

During an ongoing gunfight one soldier was martyred while five others were injured.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police denied that a mosque has been damaged during the encounter.
