Six Karbi militants killed in encounter in Assam

Guwahati, Sept 23 (IBNS) : Six hardcore militants of Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), including two top leaders, were killed in a fierce gun fight with security forces in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Friday morning, police said.

One Army man was also injured in the gun battle.

Following a tip-off,a joint team of the Army and police  launched operation in the  Banipathar area near Paklangso under Bokajan police station in the hilly district at around 1 am on Friday.

"When the troops reached the jungle area, the militants, hiding inside, started firing upon the troops.Heavy  bullets were exchanged for half an hour, in which six militants were killed on the spot and an army man sustained injuries," Karbi Anglong SP Debojit Deuri said.

He  said that two of the slain militants were the organisation's top leaders and process is going on to identify them.

The injured solider has been rushed to hospital.

Security personnel have recovered one Insas rifle, one SLR, three pistols, two hand grenades, ammunition and other articles from the area.
