New Delhi, Feb 5 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on India, on Monday, asked the Centre and the petitioners to come up with suggestions with respect to  marriage of adult couples and ordered 'khap panchayat' to refrain from interfering in such matters, according to media reports.

The Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra reiterated that no one can interfere in decision of an adult to get married, reports said.

A Supreme Court bench headed by the Chief Justice  ordered  that police should be held responsible for protection for couples in such matters, according to media reports.

In January, the apex court had also come down heavily on khap panchayats and said that they had no right to attack couples engaging in inter-caste marriage, media reported.
