SC collegium defers decision on Justice KM Joseph's elevation
New Delhi, May 2 (IBNS): A Supreme Court collegium, comprising five judges, deferred a decision on the elevation of Justice KM Joseph to the apex court, media reports said on Wednesday.
The meeting, which lasted for 45-50 minutes, also considered names of judges from three other high courts.
The collegium comprised Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph.
The decision is likely to be taken in the next meeting which will be held later this week or early next week.
The collegium's decision to consider the names of judges from Calcutta, Rajasthan, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh High Courts for elevation to the Supreme Court is looked upon as an effort to fill more vacancies in the top court.
