Samarthanam receives national award for empowerment of persons with disabilities

New Delhi, Dec 3 (IBNS): Samarthanam Trust which works across India for empowerment and upliftment of specially-abled people has been awarded the national award for empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan), 2017.

In a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan today, the Founder Managing Trustee Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar was facilitated by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, in presence of Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment.

Speaking on the occasion Mahantesh said: ” It is a moment of honor and pride. The award is a token of appreciation and also adds encouragement to strive further and aim higher. I am thankful for all the support received from employees, people, donors and well-wishers and aiding us in completing our goals.”

Samarthanam Trust caters services to people with disabilities across the nation through its initiatives and focuses on building an inclusive society free from discrimination and inequity. It has been previously honored with national award for Child Welfare by Government of India in 2010 and 2014.

Samarthanam is also the patron of “Cricket Association for Blind in India” which supports Indian Blind Cricket Team. The team’s success portfolio includes winning first T-20 World Cup (2012), fourth ODI World Cup Championship (2014) and T-20 Asia Cup (2016) and also second T-20 World Cup early this year.

Shekhar Naik, former Captain of Indian Blind Cricket team, who has been supported by Samarthanam and was also one of the awardees today said,” The trust not only skills and empowers people but also inspires them to become independent. I am especially excited on this occasion as this felicitation will inspire more people like me to come and become a part of this movement.”

Samarthanam Trust is spread across major cities of India like Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The organization also has offices overseas in USA and UK. The organization is affiliated to the World Blind Union and was awarded the Special United Nations Consultative Status in 2015.

Also Samathanam has today received “Best Institution Award” from Government of Andhra Pradesh for its excellent service.
